Review: Laneige BB Cushion Foundation

I wanted to write a review on the Laneige BB Cushion. It's somewhat of a recent purchase - I've been using it for long enough that I feel comfortable making a judgement on it now. This is the first liquid-ish foundation that I've used - ever. I've always been a mineral foundation type of person. My first ever ever foundation was a Clinique Almost Powder Makeup foundation, which was picked out by my mom. I thought that it was my holy grail foundation - really smooth, natural looking, and didn't make me break out. I didn't wear a lot of makeup back then, so this powder lasted me a long long time. Probably 3 years - the first year untouched, the second sporadically, and the third almost every day.

But curiosity drove me to try a different kind of mineral foundation, so bareMinerals was my next foundation, which I used for 2 years. Also really natural looking, smooth, and didn't break me out either. I was pretty loyal to it, but I hated how cumbersome it was to apply since it was a loose powder.

So this was what led to me to try the Laneige BB Cushion foundation. What drew me was how compact it was, as well as the fact that it was a BB cream. I had heard about the hype - how good it was for your skin, and Laneige is a Korean brand - so I picked this up at Target. It's pricey for a foundation - $34. This is the most I've ever paid for a foundation, but I figured that I'm paying a premium for the convenience aspect of it.

The way it works is that a BB cream is soaked in a sponge, which is then placed inside the compact. There's a lid to keep it from drying out, and the makeup sponge just stores inside the lid. The sponge claims to be antibacterial, but I gotta say, I definitely clean mine because it gets pretty grimy. It washes pretty well and looks almost brand new! The compact itself is a bit larger than I had expected, but is solidly made and premium feeling, despite being made of plastic.
As for the product itself - I really like it! The coverage is light to medium if you build it up. And if you do build it up, it doesn't look cakey. The finish is dewy, and I had to get used to that, coming off of the matte finishes of my old mineral foundations. It's nice for the summer time, since it's got a lot of SPF in it. I got this in a shade Medium, which matches my skin perfectly though it appears much darker in the compact than it does out. As for lasting power, I feel like it's quite good, but definitely not an 8 hour foundation.

Most of all, I love how fast it is to put this foundation on. My whole makeup routine (aside from my eyebrows) is optimized for speed. I hate waking up in the morning and I hate getting ready, which is why I love working from home so much. It's easy to just throw this on the face to even out my skintone and cover some spots.
