The Fall Lipstick Challenge

Is anyone else really self conscious when they wear lipstick? I definitely am. I love lipstick, but I only own a few since I can't justify to myself spending the money on something I'll wear on special occasions only. It's not just the self consciousness, but also the maintenance of it when it's a particularly dark color. Last December, I remember checking my lipstick in the mirror constantly to make sure it wasn't on my teeth or anywhere it wasn't supposed to be, reapplying if it was wearing down in some places.

I need to get over myself, so this month, I'm challenging myself to wear all of my dark colors to WORK. It starts today with MAC Rebel, which is my absolute favorite in my very small collection. To be completely honest, I'm working from home today, with the intention to eventually relocate to a Starbucks for some scenery change. Is that cheating?

Here are the colors I'll need to go through. Like I said, a very small collection!

  1. MAC Rebel
  2. Maybelline Color Sensational Mauve Mania
  3. Bite Beauty Meritage
  4. Revlon Lip Butter Sugar Plum (Discontinued!)
  5. Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Smitten
Other lipsticks I own, but are too summery to wear in my opinion. I also have no problem wearing corals in the summer.
  1. MAC See Sheer (Too summery, and won't be included.)
  2. Revlon Lip Butter in Juicy Papaya
  3. Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Rendezvous

I invite you guys to do this as well!

  1. I love the Revlon Lip Butters and the Sugar Plum color looks right up my alley, I'm definitely going to have to check it out. It's a great collection, if you're going to only have a few you've picked good ones! XO -Kim

    1. Sugar plum is apparently discontinued according to my research! I can't find it anywhere and I read on reddit (r/MakeupAddiction) that it was discontinued.

  2. I have MAC's rebel and it's one of my favourite lipsticks for fall! I used to be conscious wearing lipsticks too but I'm more confident wearing them out now. :)

    1. It's definitely one of my favorite colors in my small collection. I especially love it with a darker lip liner to get that vampy look.

  3. I don't get self conscious about the wearing lipstick itself, but like you said it's mostly the maintenance - getting all over my face, and then doing that fading thing in the middle haha!

    1. Yes! Especially when I eat - I get so conscious about how it's holding up.

  4. I find that the MAC/Nars/Bite lipsticks are less maintenance in general--I wore some heavy duty Bite lip products to a party recently. I only touched up once after dinner and the rest of the night the color stayed on well. It also depends on what you're doing--I assume that if you're drinking from a cup, or eating food with your fingers, it might get messy? If I drink through a straw or use forks or a chopstick it helps keep things neater.

Good luck with your lip experiment! :)

    1. I don't own any Nars lipsticks, but the Mac and Bite ones are very nice, depending on the finish. I think the Bite one I have is a little glossier, which affects the way it stays on my lips.

And thanks! Had to write it down to psych myself up for doing this.

  5. One of my favorites is actually just a tinted lip balm. I have the Burt's Bees tinted lip balm in Black Dahlia, which is great for my skin tone (warm). It's probably a little bit less tinted than some of the Sugar tinted balms (which I've only swatched. Don't own it) - but still shows up plummy on the lip.

  6. Great idea! I LOVE lipstick, but I too often shy away from wearing it. I am a big fan of the Nars line, their lipstick formula wears so nicely. Rita is my favorite red, and I just got a sample of Cruella (kind of a brick red) in the matte pencil and that is a REALLY nice shade. Good luck with your challenge!
